SIGSBEE TOWED FROM OKINAWA TO PEARL HARBOR - Saturday, April 14, 1945, 1420 Engaged jacking gear a waiting to be taken in tow by USS Dashiell DD659. 1450 Received medical aid from USS Dashiell. 1500 tow line over. 1503 TG 58.1 closed to visual range until situation clears up.1525 Received medical aid from USS Miami. - - 1623 Secured tow chain with stopper and brake at 75 fathoms. Heading now 180 degrees T, making 7 knots through the water. 1630 veered out to 90 fathoms, now making 9 knots through the water. 1757 Tow chain parted, USS Miami standing by. 1818 CAP returned to base but night fighters in vicinity. 1825 USS Miami lying to close aboard commenced to run tow line. 1843 Darkened ship. 1923 Tow line secured commenced veering out chain. 1937 Bogey 090 T distance 28 miles. 1947 Bogey bearing 038 T, distance 11 miles, bogey shot down by friendly night fighters. 1948 Commenced moving ahead slowly 90 fathoms of chain out. 1950 Bogey bearing 005 T, distance 11 miles - - - - 2125 IFF gear inoperative, bogey reports are being received from other ships in the formation. 2150 No bogies reported in area. 2225 Resumed normal condition of readiness. - - - - - Sunday April 15, 1945, 0609 Let go of cable to USS Miami.
